To be honest, I kind of disliked her character from the Shadow and Bone trilogy, but the King of Scars duology made her be a lovable and badass female character. The consensus of Nikolai? He deserves the world. Leigh Bardugo displays a bright and optimistic character on the outside yet struggling internally with his fear of the kingdom and his issues. His sarcastic, humorous personality in dire yet hopeful situations made me smile or even cry, and he matured as one of my favorite characters of all time.
Rule of Wolves gives readers an even greater insight into Nikolai’s complex character from his unwavering hope towards humanity no matter how cruel they can be to him. With a monster lurking inside him, he must face his flaws through his unnerving endurance and cover his hands with scars, hence the name King of Scars. Clawing his way to kingship with a crumbling throne, Nikolai is not given everything that he desires for an accessible price. Nikolai Lantsov is a gem: funny, charming, and with the utmost ambition to rule Ravka with honor and self-confidence, he is perceived to be essentially perfect, but he isn’t. Rule of Wolves did a magnificent job utilizing that hype to create an imperative bomb story full of intriguing characters that readers will either root or boo for. King of Scars did an outstanding job at building up to the hype.

Zoya Nazyalensky is the storm witch who has faced countless devastating battles and must come to terms with her strength and abilities to serve her country. Nikolai Lantslov: the charming king must use all of his strength, including his inner demons, to hopefully fight Fjerda’s massive army. Well, what is this book even about? Rule of Wolves centers around three characters: Note that this is the second book of the King of Scars duology so make sure you read the first book before reading the second book! Rule of Wolves is a book that you have to read if you want to feel an adrenaline rush and beautiful characters.
