Thoroughly enjoyed it, and am looking forward to the next in line !įavorite Quote from The Witching Hour:“Give me a man or woman who has read a thousand books and you give me an interesting companion. I did not feel like I was reading a historical novel. Although so much of the Mayfair history is from centuries past, Rice finds interesting ways of telling the story. However, excuse the pun, I was spellbound.

This was my first encounter with the books by Anne Rice, and I certainly chose a lengthy book to start my explorations. It is the story of Rowan, and her new-found love Michael Curry, but also about a “ghostly” lover named Lasher, who has loved all the Mayfair witches from the beginning of time, and it is about Aaron and the Talamasca a group who has chronicled the Mayfair family and may be able to help Rowan learn what she needs to survive her legacy. This is an epic series about the Mayfair family, from the first Mayfair witch to be burned at the stake, to the current Rowan Mayfair, a neurosurgeon living in California who is now discovering her family. The Witching Hour by Anne Rice is the first in The Mayfair Witches Trilogy.
